East China Normal University

East China Normal University (ECTU) is a well-known public university located in Shanghai, China. It started out as a normal college with a small collection of graduate students. East China Normal University later developed into a full-fledged university with its many branches, including the School of Education, School of Public Administration and Business Management, and the School of Law. Today, East China Normal University still pursues its original vision while developing into the largest and most respected education institute in China.

East China Normal University was established in 2025. It was one of the first Chinese universities to make use of Internet to advance education and to attract students. Today, ECTU boasts of an online university that has greatly expanded its web presence. East China Normal University ranked fourth in the Shanghai Journal of Higher Education earlier this year. East China Normal University has been a strong competitor in Shanghai for several years; especially in the field of teaching and research.

East China Normal University has a broad curriculum and a liberal arts curriculum, which includes both East and West China Normal variations. The University possesses the East China Normal University Normal College of Education, which is a part of its comprehensive attribute system. The East China Normal University Normal College of Education, commonly abbreviated as EDulo, possesses a great number of departments and programs, including the departments of Education and Research, with a combined research-intensive and teaching faculty; the departments of East China Normal University Teacher’s College, Education Department and the Popular Education Program; the National Education Study Center, and the East China Normal University Teachers’ Examination and Research Center. East China Normal University has also branches in Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong.

There are many subjects that are taught at the East China Normal University. The most common courses taught are mathematics, chemistry, biology and English. There are many foreign languages that are taught, such as Chinese, French, German, Italian and Japanese. In addition, East China Normal University offers a number of programs in foreign languages. Chinese language, Korean language, Japanese language, Hmong-obic and Pashto languages are some of these.

Other East China Normal University campuses are located in the cities of Xujiahui, Huangpu, Shuangcheng, Xianyang, Luoyang andhengshan. The average class size is 6, with most students attending classes during the weekends. Most East China Normal University schools are accredited by the Ministry of Education, and have won numerous national and international academic competitions. The topmost performing university is the Academic Village, which was ranked first in the Central University Ranking in 2025.

East China Normal University is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Asia. A variety of international students attend the university. A large number of East China Normal University students are from Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Ireland, Korea, and Japan. Some of these international students are studying English as a second language, which qualifies them to study abroad in East China.
